‘Mija, yes you can’ founder to be honored with mural to commemorate her work with the community

Psssttt Mijas,

We know it’s last minute but we have a secret we wanna share with you!

The Mija Project’s Founder, Iris Lopez, was chosen as the subject for the Estrella Jalisco’s Artist in Residence program. The brand is on a mission to bring color and brightness to 100 communities in the U.S. The mural honoring Lopez is the second to be created in El Paso from the brand – the first was revealed last week by artist Cimi and it honored artist and attorney Patrick Gabaldon.

El Paso artist Martin “Blaster” Zubia will reveal the mural he created honoring El Paso native Iris Lopez and her efforts behind, ‘Mija, Yes You Can. Blaster, a member of Artspace, has been painting murals for 27 years and is motivated to show the public how to appreciate graffiti as an art form.

Iris Lopez and the rest of The Mijas will be in attendance as the mural is revealed to her for the first time. (She might *ugly cry in spanish.* We’re not sure yet but our bet is, Mija yes she will.)

So, if you’re just hanging out Monday morning and wanna join in on the celebration, JOIN US!

Have a Mija shirt? Rock your shirt to the reveal to show your support for The Mija Project.

P.S. Don’t forget your face masks and social distancing guidelines will still remain in place for this outdoor reveal.
