MijaMakingMoves: Meet the woman behind a women only gym

Sometimes as women, we need our personal space and time for ourselves. Especially when it comes to relaxation, and what better than to assist a women-only gym? This is the dream of every woman to have a gym designed for the use of women only. Men are not allowed in here.

I’d like to introduce you to Marlene, she is the owner and founder of GRL PWR Gym located on the westside of El Paso. Marlene has been a trainer for about six years. She began her fitness career at a different gym location as a front desk associate, then moved up to manager and head trainer. Eventually, she decided to focus on opening her gym.

GRL PWR gym is made by a woman and for women only. “ The gym itself gives the whole purpose of the gym. We as women are powerful and a lot of the time men have the tendency to tell us that we are not” said Marlene.

Marlene continued by stating, “As women we hold so much power in our families and ourselves. I think it is important for us to empower one another.”

The gym not only offers group fitness training they also offer one-on-one personal training. They even have mental health talks for women and also have social networking events to help out women-owned businesses.

Marleen also mentioned that they also have nutrition classes to help women who want to improve their health. She also stated that they offer samples of the supplements she offers at her gym.

To all my mijas out there, Marlene has a special message for all of you.

“You are stronger and more powerful than what you think. Growing up and especially in our culture, we have never had this kind of support since our culture is very machista. I guess nowadays women are supporting women more than ever and it’s truly amazing.”  said Marlene.
