Mija, You Matter: How Women Can Take Control of Their Mental Wellbeing

So, we have a few questions for all you hard-working Mijas out there: How often do you do things that are only for YOU? When was the last time you did or engaged yourself in something that made YOU truly happy?

If you had to stop and think about that answer because the answer was, not often, don’t worry you’re not alone. Women’s mental health wellness has been one of the least discussed topics because most women are raised to believe that it’s not a big deal and we normalize those uncomfortable thoughts, but that shouldn’t be the case.

Mija’s, you’ll be surprised to see how little effort it takes for you to boost your mood and to have overall well-being for your emotional and mental health. Sometimes taking the first step to manage your mental wellbeing can be tough, so here are a few tips to help you get started on your mental health journey.

First of all, you need to practice self-care. I personally practice self-care and I can be a   witness that this helps you a lot. This is one of the main things that a lot of mental health websites and health experts will tell you.

Practicing self-care will have a huge impact on your life, and making it a priority will help you maintain a healthy and good relationship with your mental and physical well-being.

How does mental health impact their performance at work?

Nowadays, women are not stuck to the age-old traditional roles, they have advanced quite a bit, and often because of the same reason they tend to neglect their physical, mental, and emotional health.

We women have the tendency to put self-care on the side and that’s mainly because we are often too occupied trying to balance our personal and work life.

When we neglect ourselves, our physical health ends up suffering the most. The health conditions we end up experiencing can be headaches, insomnia, loss of appetite, emotional distress, low energy, mood swings, and so much more. This ends up affecting our personal and professional life.

According to the CDC report, women who have senior-level jobs are more likely to experience burnout and they have a higher chance of experiencing postpartum depression while returning to work.

Here are a few more self-care ideas to take care of your mental health and improve your overall well-being:

1. Always have a positive attitude

2. Invest time in relaxing and getting better sleep

3. Practice meditating

4. Set healthy boundaries and learn how to say NO

5. Make having a healthy lifestyle a priority

Taking the first step to managing your mental well-being can be difficult at times, but if you practice techniques that fit your schedule and at a pace that works best for you then taking that first step will be easy!

Always remember to take care of your mind because it’s the only one you have. And when times get tough, just remember: Mija, you matter!
